Washtenaw County Farm Bureau was proud to again support county 4-H members by purchasing a hog and providing auction premiums in the Washtenaw County 4-H Livestock Auction held on Thursday, July 28.

The farm Bureau purchased a 260-pound market hog exhibited by Caleb Benedict from Chelsea for $3.25 per pound. Caleb’s hog was processed into one-pound packages of mild sausage and will be used as door prizes at our annual meeting and possibly other fall county Farm Bureau activities.

Caleb is the son of Cindy Grau from Chelsea and Chris Benedict from Manchester. The Farm Bureau continued its two-year tradition of supporting Washtenaw County Farm Bureau members and the children of Farm Bureau members by “adding-on” $30 in premiums for each of them who sold market hogs.

In 2020, the hog exhibitors also received an auction premium and in 2021 the children of members who sold feeder calves, market lambs and market beef received auction premiums.

The Washtenaw County Farm Bureau Board of Directors is looking forward to continuing this program of purchasing a hog each year and awarding auction premiums to exhibitors of different species each year. We believe it is important to invest in our agriculture producers.

Auction Premiums were awarded to the following 13 Farm Bureau members or children of Washtenaw County Farm Bureau members: Karissa Rasch, Manchester; Christian Rentschler, Ann Arbor; Amanda LaRoe, Dexter; Carson Benedict, Chelsea; Brody Powers, Chelsea; Lee Blumenauer, Manchester; Caleb Benedict, Chelsea; Benjamin Rentschler, Ann Arbor; Easton Powers, Chelsea; Emily Trinkle, Dexter; Logan Powers, Chelsea; Luke Blumenauer, Manchester; and Madelyn Ernst, Manchester.
