WCC Tuition to Remain Frozen for County Residents

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Fran LeFort for the information in this story.)

Tuition for in-district students at Washtenaw Community College (WCC) will remain frozen for the fourth consecutive year, the college announced following Board of Trustees approval.

“Providing a quality education at an affordable price is the hallmark of WCC and is all the more important during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said WCC President Dr. Rose Bellanca.

The WCC Board of Trustees approved the tuition freeze at its meeting last week.

Tuition per credit hour is $95 for on-campus in-district students and $108 for online in-district students. In-district students live, work or own property in Washtenaw County.

“Our steadfast commitment to offering an exceptional education and affordable tuition drives student success,” Bellanca said. “For some students, that means transferring their associate degree to a university to complete a bachelor’s. For others it means directly entering the workforce at a good paying job.”

Modest tuition increases were approved for students who do not live in Washtenaw County. For example, tuition for on-campus classes for out-of-district students will increase slightly from $164 to $167 per credit hour while tuition for online classes will increase from $117 to $119.

WCC continues to offer among the lowest tuition and fees for Michigan community colleges, with the total cost of enrollment for WCC students consistently ranking in the lowest cost quartile.

Students who spend the first two years of their college career at WCC before transferring can save more than $21,000 in tuition compared to the average amount students pay at four-year public colleges and universities in Michigan, according to 2019-2020 data from the National Center for Educational Statistics, U.S. Department of Education.
