Chelsea State Bank ad

Week in review: Sept. 3-9

The sun sets over Cavanaugh Lake.

This was a very busy week news-wise, and because I can only cover so many things as a one-woman operation, I had some tough calls to make on how to handle several stories that I couldn’t write myself.

Because I thought (a press conference about education, the bust at the Chelsea doctor’s office and Journal Register Company filing chapter 11) were important news items, I linked to other reliable news sources and posted them for you.

I’m curious to hear what you think about that. If you have a strong opinion one way or another, please drop me an email at [email protected] or give me a call at 433-1052. And know, whenever possible, I will report and write these stories myself.

Having said that, there will be a new columnist appearing once a month on ChelseaUpdate. Len Pytlak, my CPA for the last 13 years, has offered to answer your questions about finances, taxes, debt reduction, or anything money-related. If you have questions you’d like answered, please send me an email, your name doesn’t need to be included, and I’ll pass them along to him.

As a reminder to readers, if you look on the right side of the home page, you’ll see a small box with “subscribe to the newsletter” area. It’s free and you just need to type in your email address and each afternoon, about 1 p.m., you’ll receive a simple daily newsletter via email. It gives you all the new headlines that have been published since the day before. By subscribing, you can cherry-pick whatever new stories interest you — without hunting and pecking through all the tabs at the top.

Each Monday, new police blotter items are added directly to that page, but they aren’t included in the newsletter. The same is true of obituaries — so you’ll need to click on those tabs to see what’s new.

I’m also excited to tell you that along with more than 900 Facebook fans in less than two months, Chelsea Update is gaining business sponsorship through new advertisers. I hope, in turn, that you let these advertisers know you’ve noticed their ad. Some are “live” and by clicking on them, it will take you to their Website. This site will never shove its sponsors in reader’s faces, so look to the far right hand side of the page and please, give them some love.

One of the new advertisers on Chelsea Update is a Pinconning car dealer. Maybe you’ve seen the mouse and cheese on the front license plate area of my van? I’m “driving proof” of the used vehicles sold by Schafer Chevrolet. Plus, it’s owned by my cousin, Russ LaFave, and he’s been kind enough to show me some family support. So if you see something you like on the dealership’s Website, they’ll deliver the vehicle to Chelsea.

Again, a huge thank you to readers who continue to send kudos and contributions. Both are greatly appreciated. You make me smile daily and want to work even harder to bring you as much Chelsea news as I possibly can each day.
