Western Washtenaw Democrats to host forum on consequences of right to work law

(Chelsea Update would like to thank the Western Washtenaw Dems for the information in this story.)

As the controversial Right to Work legislation becomes law in Michigan, the Western Washtenaw Democrats will present a panel of esteemed speakers on Thursday, March 7 to discuss the consequences of the law and what can be done to overturn it.

The event will begin at 7 p.m., at the IBEW Hall at 7920 Jackson Road in Scio Township.

Panelists will include State Senator Gretchen Whitmer, Michigan AFL-CIO President Karla Swift, and Michigan American Federation of Teachers President David Hecker and others.

“We hope to provide a forum for an intelligent, reasoned, and relevant discussion of the Michigan version of the right to work law that was passed in December 2012 with no committee discussion and no public participation, by a lame-duck legislature and our governor,” said Roy Schmidt, of Sylvan Township, chairman of the Western Washtenaw Democrats.

He said he expects a large turnout, according to a press release.
