Wreaths, baskets, grave blanket sales benefit Troop 425

Tyler Lukomski, 15, is a veteran of the Boy Scout Troop 425 wreath sale in the Chelsea State Bank parking lot at the corner of Main and Old US-12.

He said staying warm in the freezing temperatures and spitting snow during Saturday’s fundraiser was all about dressing in layers and keeping moving.

The scouts braved the elements from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., while customers popped out of their warm cars to quickly select their wreaths or baskets and just as quickly got back in their vehicles.

“We do have hot chocolate,” one scout said.

Saturday’s greens sale was the first of two Saturdays that they’ll sell three sizes of wreaths that range in size from 2 feet to 4 feet and in price from $20-$45. They also sold roping and grave blankets and baskets of greens as well.

The sale is a big fundraiser for the troop and is an about 20-year tradition. All the green are made by Heim Gardens and if they run short of an item, they can run up the street and get more.

The scouts and their parents will begin setting up the display next Saturday, Dec. 1 at 7:30 a.m. and they’ll be on hand until about 1 p.m. if you missed this Saturday’s sale.

You can get your tree from the cub scouts who are set up at Polly’s and your wreaths from the boy scouts and help both troops in their fundraisers.

“We send people to them and they send people to us,” one parent said.
