Head track coach Eric Swager was pleased with the Bulldog’s runner-up performance last week at the SEC Track and Field Championship held at Chelsea High School.

“We once again performed above projections, but fell short to Pinckney for the overall title,” Swager said, adding, “Our 120 points scored was an impressive feat, and we really gave the Division 1 Pirates a scare. They are a well-rounded team, and their sprint and hurdle depth really won the meet for them.”

There were many outstanding efforts:

Carson Rabbitt was league champ in the mile and runner up in the 800. He showed some great explosiveness in the last 250 meters of both races.

Jensen Holm dominated the 3200 run by 20+ seconds, and also was all SEC in the 1600 run.

Ross Stofflet scored in 3 events (Long jump, 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles)

Josiah Fitch was SEC champ in the shot put and placed in the discus.

Freshmen Ryan Scott (shot put) and Aiden McGuire (discus) earned all SEC honors in their events – a rarity for freshmen.

Other lifetime bests included Parker Olk, Dom Guthre, Ben Yeasting, and Owen Smith.

In general, the whole team impressed me with their competitiveness and their great attitude throughout the night,” Swager said.

The coach said, “I am very pleased with our overall SEC outcome. To go 6-1 in dual meets, and come close to winning this meet is a great accomplishment for this young squad. We now focus for next Friday’s Regional Championship.”

Swager also thanked all the parents and volunteers who helped make the meet a success.
