Chelsea Community Fair Queen Amy Gilbert has been busy since she was crowned in August 2014.

She’s represented the Chelsea Fair while riding in the Hometown Holiday Parade as well as in the recent Manchester Community Fair.

In addition, she welcomed Santa Claus and turned on the lights for the community Christmas Tree last December.

In fact, she’s had a year to enjoy her reign, but on Friday, Aug. 28, she will pass the crown onto a new queen at the conclusion of the Fair Queen Program, which takes place at 7 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Arena.

Superintendent Heather Kinzer is seeking Chelsea and Dexter High School contestants who would like to participate in this year’s program. If you would like to vie for fair queen, please call Kinzer at 476-8429 or email her at [email protected].

It’s lots of fun and the girls make lasting friendships. Plus, Gilbert will be there to mentor this year’s candidates before fair begins as they embark in a number of activities that prepare them for the duties the candidates perform at fair. These include include the annual ribbon cutting ceremony to open the fair on Monday, Aug. 24 at the main gate, and assisting with Ladies Day on Friday, Aug. 28.

The queen wins a scholarship, crown, bouquet, trophy, sitting and portrait, charm bracelet, and fair queen sash. There’s a scholarship and trophy for the runner-up, as well as trophies for 2nd runner-up, 3rd runner-up, Miss Congeniality and a talent award.
