Chelsea Kiwanis Club to hear about Eagle Scout project

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt for the information in this story.)

This Monday, the Chelsea Kiwanis Club will hear from Thomas Kennings, a Chelsea Boy Scout from Troop 425 who is working on his Eagle Scout project. He plans to improve the picnic tables under the pavilion at Chelsea Community fairgrounds.

Club members are looking forward to hearing his ideas.

Last Monday, the club traveled to the Saline Kiwanis Club’s meeting and heard from Laurie McCauley, dean of University of Michigan School of Dentistry. She explained the renovations underway at the school to improve the patient experience. During the last major renovations in 1972, and before that, the students were the focus. Now entrances will be more welcoming.

McCauley said that both students and faculty participate in dental clinics to serve low income families. They also serve people living in underserved areas of Michigan. There is also global outreach, working with the medical school for example, to correct cleft palate deformities.

The club meeting begins each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m. Everyone is invited to the club’s meetings to learn about Kiwanis.
