(Chelsea Update is running a series on businesses in Chelsea beginning with businesses that belong to the Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce. This week, it’s Proactive Chiropractic.)

Proactive Chiropractic opened in January 2015 and is located in the Clocktower Commons building. The practice specializes in helping patients with neck pain, low back pain, upper back pain, sciatica, and headaches.

“We utilize massage, chiropractic adjustments, and exercises to improve conditions quickly,” said Dr. Lisa Mesko. “Also, we emphasize teaching patients how to reduce their risk of re-injury and have the ability to improve their chronic conditions on their own. Our honest goal is to improve our patients as quickly as possible and educate them on how to keep that improvement on their own.”

Proactive Chiropractic treats people of all ages, from kids who have pain from carrying heavy backpacks or playing competitive sports, to adults, who may experience chronic headaches or neck pain from desk jobs, to the elderly, who may have chronic long-term conditions like arthritis.

Mesko, who grew up in Manchester, suffered from low back pain in her early 20s, and found that chiropractic worked for her.

“It was the experience that inspired me to become a chiropractor myself, to make it my job to understand back pain, the reasons we have it, and the best ways to improve it,” she said.

She works with Dr. Kim Wojnarowski, who personally found chiropractic to be helpful for headaches. They met during school and decided to open a “different” type of office together.

“We don’t require a two-visit initial appointment unless further tests or x-rays are needed,” explained Mesko. “This allows a history, exam, and treatment to happen on day one because people need relief right away. We frequently utilize more than one therapy such as massage, condition specific exercises, and adjustments, and we don’t require patients to lengthy pre-paid treatment plans.

“We value being a part of the Chelsea community, especially the business community,” said Mesko. “Chelsea is a city with life and character, not to mention beauty.”

Doctors Kim and Lisa are easy to talk to, incredibly attentive listeners and extremely knowledgeable. They combine treatments in the office with exercises you can do at home. We are so fortunate to have them here in Chelsea!
