Be sure to mark your calendars now for the Ghoultide Gathering, which will take place on Oct. 4 at the Chelsea Community Fairgrounds.

More than three dozen artists are brewing up pieces in a medley of mediums and forms all based on the fantastical theme of Halloween.

For those you can’t wait until 10 a.m., there’s an early shopping treat for $20 from 8-10 a.m. , which includes free shopping totes and drawings for gift certificates.

Regular admission is $5 and takes place from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. (Click on the event’s ad on Chelsea Update for a $1-off coupon for general admission.)

Parking is free.

Creating an assortment of curios that delight patrons with wacky whimsicality, the artists participating in Ghoultide Gathering look beyond traditional Halloween imagery for inspiration. Their passion for the season fuels the creative process and produces artwork that is playful, unpredictable, and begs to be taken home.

Visitors discover the joy of owning original pieces in a style that continues to evolve and become much more sophisticated.  These creations cannot be found in typical retail locations and having them displayed all in one place is artistic magic.

Launched eight years ago by Michigan artist, Scott Smith, the show has become known as an incubator of creativity.  Participants come from all over the country to present their interpretations of Halloween and are often just as anxious to get a glimpse of each other’s work as the collectors are.

Quality and ingenuity are key factors for being juried into the show, and the lineup for this year proves the pool of talent for Halloween art runs deep. Several new artists are excited to join the 2014 Ghoultide roster. They are Charlene Geiger – California, Nina Vivian Huryn – Ohio, Nancy Malay – Minnesota, Sylvia Smiser – Illinois, Tammy Strum – Montana, David Bruce – Washington, and Michigan artists, Donald VanAuken, David Barber, and Paul Wizynajtys.

A total of three dozen fine artisans produce visual treats, along with a few tricks, working in a medley of mediums such as papier-mâché, paintings, pottery, soft sculpture, metal, and even found objects.  The show’s website offers a complete list of participating artists and samples of their works.

This year a portion of the proceeds from the show go to The Humane Society of Huron Valley, supporting animal adoption and care in the community.
