There is something timeless about a community fair, and that is certainly the case at the 80th annual Chelsea Community Fair.

Wednesday, Aug. 23, kicked off with the judging of the goats followed later by the judging of dairy feeder calves, beef and sheep.

There was an all-day Youth Horse Show, merchant displays in the Merchant Barn and Nature’s Creation of Life in the Red Barn.

The rides began at 3 p.m., Colors the Clown paid a visit to the fair, there was bingo in the Knights of Columbus Bingo Tent, and a Figure 8 Demolition Derby in the evening.

Across the Chelsea Fairgrounds, people of all ages enjoyed comfortable weather and a great choice of activities, rides, and refreshments.

Shelly Cole came from Grass Lake with her husband and toddler. She enjoys the horses while husband Aaron Cole said, “I like the crash ‘em derby.”

Amanda and Sam Kaminski came from Belleville. She, too, likes the horses while Sam favors looking at all the equipment on display.

“I like the demolition derby and the rides,” said Cody Vincent from Napoleon, while his friend Cope Bagley said, “The truck and tractor pulls are my favorites.”

Lines for the rides moved quickly with some of the most popular including the Screamer Xtreme, the Sizzler, the Freak Out, and the Cliff Hanger.

Among the favorite fair foods: Deep fried Oreos, funnel cakes, cotton candy, corn dogs, and cheese fries.

The Chelsea Community Fair continues through Saturday night with events including the Draft Horse Pull, the selection of Fair Queen and the Chelsea Fair Parade at 1 p.m. Saturday.
