May 26: lots of Memorial Day weekend goodies at the Chelsea Farmers Market

By Lisa Carolin

If you’re looking for things to do over Memorial Day Weekend, look no further than the Chelsea Farmers Market.

Spring is definitely in the air at the market as is evidenced by the huge variety of flowers and plants including tomato plants as well as kale, cabbage and Swiss chard plants.

The market is welcoming several new vendors this season including Janet Hunter, owner of Michigan Magpie Farm. She lives in Grass Lake where she raises Magpie ducks, a species from Great Britain that her Great Uncle Isaac “Ike” Hunter introduced to the U.S., specifically Michigan, in 1963. Hunter sells all sorts of duck products such as duck eggs, mugs, earrings, and books.

There will be meats, cheeses, eggs, and honey at the market, as well as a variety of breads, cookies, muffins, and cakes.

The Saturday market takes place in the municipal parking lot by the library along Park Street from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.
