Sept. 11: Chelsea Kiwanis to hear from Washtenaw County Veteran’s Honor Guard

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt for the information in this story.)

This Monday, the Chelsea Kiwanis Club will hear from representatives of the Veterans Honor Guard of Washtenaw County.

Dave Royer will lead the presentation. The Honor Guard is a volunteer service organization providing military funeral honors for local veterans. The honor detail includes the playing of taps, the folding and presentation of the American flag to the next of kin, and a rifle volley. The service is available free of charge for families of eligible veterans.  During their presentation, Dave and his fellow Honor Guard members will demonstrate the flag folding ceremony and discuss its symbolism.

The club meeting begins each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m. Everyone is invited to the club’s meetings to learn about Kiwanis.
