Katrina Luckhardt, dairy superintendent, says this year’s dairy entry at the Chelsea Community Fair is the largest one in the last 5-6 years and four of the five dairy breeds will be represented.

Visitors to the dairy barn will see Holstein, Guernsey, Jersey and Brown Swiss. The only one that’s missing is the Ayrshire.

Holstein are black and white. Guernsey are brown and white, Jersey are brown with large eyes and Brown Swiss are a lighter brown.

“It’s been years since we’ve had a Guernsey,” she said and expected are 11-13 dairy entries from multiple families.

Luckhardt thinks the uptick in entries is because more people are “wanting to go organic and they want to make butter and milk for themselves.”

Dairy shows at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21.
