Chelsea Human Rights Commission welcomes new member

By Lisa Carolin

The Chelsea Human Rights Commission welcomed a fifth member at its Aug. 1 meeting. She is Lori Klein-Shapiro, who moved to Chelsea last year.

HRC members said that they still haven’t received the results of the survey that was made available during the spring. City staff has been working on entering the information along with comments that were made.

HRC member Susan Morrell-Samuels suggested that at its next meeting, the commission schedule meetings with the community to discuss the results of the survey.

The HRC also talked about a draft letter that it hopes to approve at its next meeting to forward to the city attorney along with a statement from Laura Thorhauer, the complainant who contacted the HRC regarding the Chelsea District Library complaining to her about being barefoot in the library.

The HRC’s next meeting will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers.
