Since he was a sophomore in high school, Cyril S. White strived to be fit.

At 53, he is continuing that goal as a coach, trainer, and owner of Strong Together, a fitness training center, located at 1145 South Main St. in the former Blockbuster and Movie Planet Video Store.

“We offer people healthier, happier and more fulfilling lives by teaching them how to move better, eat better, and break through their mental and physical limits,” said White. “What we are not is a gym. We help people win their day outside the gym.”

Strong Together uses the CrossFit methodology, which is a systematic way to teach varied, functional movements and nutrition to people. The business has nine employees and is a Strong Together affiliate, one of eight in the country. White says he hopes to attract, “People who are very out of shape, who want to get into the best shape of their lives, and who are open to being coached.”

He recently joined the Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce to network with the local community.

“I love the fact that Chelsea is still a simple farming community, not too big but not too small, close to Ann Arbor with good restaurants,” he said.

White has completed Ironman Triathlons and competed in martial arts and says he is also passionate about running his own business.

“I had to drive to Ann Arbor to get the type of fitness training I needed because there was nothing like it in the Chelsea area,” he said. “CrossFit changed my life and the lives of my family. It was all about helping everyday people be the best they can be and it didn’t require a lot of capital to start or run. My oldest daughter and I became certified in CrossFit, Barwis Methods Strength and Conditioning and Nutrition.”

White is also a Certified Financial Planner ™, has a Master’s degree in finance from the University of Chicago, and a Bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Michigan. He has served on numerous boards and committees in the area including the Chelsea Rotary Club, Chelsea Wellness Foundation, Chelsea United Way and Saint Joseph Mercy Health System.

He and his wife live on a 26-acre farm in Lima Township and have three daughters, all of whom graduated from Chelsea schools.
