Chelsea planners OK gas station site plan amendments

By Lisa Carolin

The Chelsea Planning Commission held a teleconference meeting Tuesday, April 21, and unanimously approved the fuel station addition and renovation site plan amendment filed by Chelsea Petroleum, Inc.

Changes were previously approved for building elevations for the 2,402-square-foot addition for the building to be located at 1629 S. Main Street.

The approved site plan includes the demolition of the car wash with a drive-up window for a coffee and sandwich shop for a total proposed building of 3,920 square feet.

The final site plan was approved by the planning commission in August of 2019, and the proposed amendment was submitted on March 1, 2020.

Steven Kolber, owner of Kolber Design, spoke during the meeting about the lighting that would go on the proposed building, something planning commission members found acceptable. Planning commission members also reviewed the building design and materials.

In other action, the planning commission unanimously approved the 2019 Summary of Planning and Zoning Activities, which was compiled by Julia Upfal, community development director.

The summary includes a glimpse of activities the Chelsea Planning Commission worked on in 2019 with a comparison to its 2018 activities.

  1. Will the gas station include a car wash. Does seem we’re making an uneven trade for a drive through coffee shop for a needed car wash!

    • Currently, there is a car wash just past the intersection of Old-12 and Main Street (M-52).
