Bulldog golf still in the hunt as it heads to the league meet

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Head Golf Coach Joe Ewald for the information in this story.)

On Monday, May 13, the Chelsea Golf Team hosted Dexter, Monroe and Bedford in a quad meet at Reddeman Farms.

Dexter was the low score of the day with a 167, Monroe was next at 170, Bedford shot a 180, followed by Chelsea at 186.

“Picking up 3 SEC losses on a great day on our home course, is not the result I expected,” said Head Golf Coach Joe Ewald.

Scoring for the Bulldogs was Teddy Darr with a 45, Zach McKinley shot a 46, Joe Slusser had a 47, and Sean Lyons finished with a 48.

On Wednesday, May 15, the Bulldogs traveled to Pine view Golf Course for a Tri Meet with Lincoln and Ypsilanti, and Chelsea came away with a split.

Lincoln finished with 178, Chelsea had 181, and Ypsi was third with 193.

“Our scoring is stuck in the low 180s, and it should be coming down by this time of year,” Ewald said.

The low score for Chelsea was McKinley with a 41, Slusser had a 45, Michael Purdy shot a 47, and Blake Salgat and Jonny Mangner each shot a 48.

“Despite the unimpressive record of 3 and 8 in conference play, we are in a three way tie for 2nd going in to the league meet next week,” he said, adding, the top finisher between Lincoln, Adrian, and Chelsea on that day will be guaranteed at least 2nd in the White Division.

“I like our chances,” he said.
