April 29: Celebrate 10th Annual Independent Bookstores Day

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Michelle Tuplin for the information in this story.)

Serendipity Books will participate in the 10th Anniversary of Independent Bookstore Day on April 29 at its 108 East Middle St. location.

There will be more than 30 exclusive items for sale and as giveaways, from specialized signed editions, to banned books puzzles, heartstopper stickers, and customized Black Wing pencils.

There will be customized cookies, a hidden ‘golden ticket’ to win a year of audiobooks, and the launch of a bookmark program encouraging children to design a special bookmark to be printed and given away at the store all summer long.

This is also the inaugural year of a Michigan Book Hop – the first ever statewide bingo event to celebrate Independent Bookstore Day. You can participate by visiting indie bookstores throughout Michigan. More information on the Book Hop can be found at https://mibookhop.com (Grand prize is $300.)

“We are thrilled to be participating in Independent Bookstore Day, a day that celebrates the special spot that bookstores enjoy in our communities and allows us to say thank you to our loyal and supportive customers,” said Michelle Tuplin, owner, Serendipity Books, in a press release.

Independent Bookstore Day (IBD) was established in 2013 to promote, celebrate, and highlight the value of the Independent bookstore community. The day has been observed on the last Saturday of April every year since 2013. This year there are over   across the country.

Independent Bookstore Day is organized by the American Booksellers Association, a national not-for-profit trade organization, that works with booksellers and industry partners to ensure the success and profitability of independently owned book retailers, and to assist in expanding the community of the book.
