Beach Middle School football learning, improving

(Chelsea Update would like to thank David Slusser and Daniel Rhodes for the information in this story.)

7th grade

The Beach Middle School 7th grade football team played Bedford on Tuesday and lost 48-0.

Hunter Burk led the Dogs in tackles and made several key plays on third down. Upfront, Ben Vanhoek and Draper Montgomery led the defensive line in tackles.

Offensively, Caden Steele, Hunter Burk, Luke Kavanaugh, EJ Milan, Beckett Boos, and Buck Allen all had positive plays for the Dogs.

The team will finish its season on Tuesday against Manchester.

8th grade

The 8th grade football team lost Tuesday night to the Kicking Mules from Bedford, 30-12.

The Bulldogs played a tough first half and were down 8-6 after two quarters. Bedford then overpowered the Bulldogs in the second half.

The Dawgs scored on two passes, when Nate Christian connected with Will McCalla in the 2nd quarter, and again when Christian connected with Sam Borcherding in the 4th quarter. Borcherding made a nice catch and several nice moves to get into the end zone.

Defensively, Richard Montoye, Ethan Povlich, Indy Hurst, and Chase Maihofer, and others made several big stops. The Dawgs forced one turnover when Montoye forced a fumble that was recovered by Maihofer.

While the result was not what the team wanted, the boys continue to improve on their blocking, tackling, and overall physicality.

The Bulldogs close out the season Tuesday when they travel to Pinckney.
