Head Boys Track and Field Coach Eric Swager said the team “squeaked out an invitational win against eight other very solid schools.”

He called out Grandville, Holt, and Saginaw Heritage as all quality Division I programs, and Mason always has a solid squad.

“It really surprised me that we came out on top, although we scored points pretty much across the board,” he said, adding,

“It just goes to show that every event matters.”

Here are some of the highlights:

The discus squad having three guys over 120 feet, spearheaded by a huge 138-foot heave by Sam Katon – the farthest in the SEC white this season.

  • The 3200 runners (Horn, Trimas, Koch, Vermilye) all at or near lifetime bests.
  • The 3200 relay, who posted one of the top times in the state this year.
  • The hurdle crew, who scored 27 of our points in just 2 events, and
  • The pole vaulters, dominating 3 of the top 4 spots.

“We need to maintain these improvements, and hone a few more events as we enter the second half of the season,” Swager
said.

The staff would like to remind all parents and fans that CHS will host the last 2 dual meets on the next two Tuesdays.

“We need workers to help fill the timing and field event slots,” he said. “Come on down and support our quest for a third
consecutive SEC title.”
