Bulldogs Swim and Dive take tough loss at Tecumseh

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Andrew Thomson for the information in this story.)

The Chelsea girls swim and dive team traveled to Tecumseh last Tuesday to square off against a scrappy Tecumseh team, and the Indians came out on top, defeating the Bulldogs (7-2, 2-1 SEC White) by a final score of 94-91.

The Bulldogs led off the evening with the team of Olivia Olk, Bella Turner, Alexis Nelson and Olivia Prodin taking second (1:59.23) in the 200 medley relay.  Morgan DeYoe finished runner-up (2:15.32) in the 200 freestyle, with teammate Rory Krause right behind her for third place (2:15.55).

Abby Robbins earned her division 3 state cut in the 200 individual medley, finishing in second place (2:20.68).  Nelson held on for runner-up in the 50 freestyle (25.92).

The Bulldog divers got on the board and all three competitors on Tuesday night qualified for regionals.  All three divers posted a season best score with Savananh Fisk finishing first (187.70), Molly Jacobson second (167.95), and Megan Fletcher third (162.80).

Bulldog dive coach Kristy Richart said, “This group of divers is talented and driven.  I can’t remember the last time we had 3 divers already qualified for regionals by mid-September.”

Riley Monahan led the charge in the 100 butterfly and earned third place (1:11.88), while in the 100 freestyle, Prodin touched second (59.17).  In the 500 freestyle, Nelson finished in the top spot (5:46.88), while Monahan came right back from the butterfly to take third place (5:58.89).

The 200 freestyle relay did their job with the team of Robbins, DeYoe, Krause, and Turner winning the event (1:51.32) and the team of Ella Girard, Elle Mahalak, Amanda Dosey and Hannah Harmes touching third (2:00.93).

Kauri Fields was the Bulldogs’ top finisher in the 100 backstroke, taking third place (1:08.75), which in the 100 breaststroke Abby Robbins finished second (1:10.78).  The meet concluded with the 400 freestyle relay team of Katie Leissner, Fields, Krause, and Olk finishing second (4:09.53).

After the meet, head coach Andrew Thomson said, “Tecumseh is a good team with some talented athletes.  We had some of our swimmers in spots tonight where they will absolutely be able to build from and learn how to perform in a big moment by the time conference meet comes around.  We will absolutely learn from tonight, and be ready to go for our next big meet, because Milan comes to town next and they are a solid team as well.”

The Bulldogs host Milan tonight at Cameron pool before heading across the state to Holland for the Division 3 Mid-Season Invitational hosted by Holland Christian.
