Chelsea Board of Education OKs 1 seat in ‘Virtual Learning Academy Consortium’

The Chelsea Board of Education opened up one seat in its Virtual Learning Academy Consortium Monday night making the district ‘a limited school of choice’ for the school year.

By a 6-1 vote, the board opened up the K-8 program seat in the online program to meet an additional criteria needed to meet the state’s “Best Practices” requirements, which means an additional $125,000 in state funding for the district.

Superintendent of Schools Andy Ingall said that currently, four students in the Chelsea School District participate in the program and they are all home schooled.

Board Member Tammy Lehman cast the lone no vote after she asked what would happen if a student from another district pulled out of the online course. She was told that the student would then become Chelsea’s responsibility.

Here’s the detailed information about the opening from the district’s Website.
