Chelsea BOE meets four new teachers, OKs district medical plan changes

Four of the five new teachers hired by the Chelsea School District were introduced to the Board of Education last night. They are Melissa McIntosh, Cameron Groenewoud, Lindsey Heckler, and Emily Myers.

The fifth new teacher, Holly Reiser, was unable to make the meeting, but is expected to  be introduced at the Aug. 27 meeting

The board unanimously approved the three items on its consent agenda: a Chelsea House Orchestra field trip request to perform at Silver Maples on Sept. 16; an amendment to the district’s medical plan, and a request from the Music Boosters for contact information for all 5th through 12th grade music students for the 2012-2013 school year.

The changes to the district’s medical plan include $12/$40 prescription coverage for all staff except the transportation union, which has elected to keep the $10/$40/$60 plan. The second change allows district staff and their dependents have “the opportunity to use $250 a year for weight loss and/or smoking cession programs.”

The school board also discussed whether to continue its pay-to-play fees but did not vote on the issue.

Superintendent Andy Ingall gave a presentation on the recent State Board of Education ratings for the district schools, operating millage options as well as the district’s sinking fund.

Stay tuned for stories on these topics later this week.
