The Chelsea Girls Cross-Country team bested Richland Gull Lake by 2 points to win their regional title on Oct. 26.

“I told the girls going in that there would be five good teams in this meet, and we managed to beat all of them,” said coach Pat Clarke.

“We ran a great team race,” he said, “In spite of a very windy course we had four girls run lifetime best times to lead us to the regional championship. Those girls were: junior Artemis Eyster, sophomore Sandra Gofton, freshman Jesse Jacobusse, and freshman Maggie Tarasow. As they have all year, Eyster and Jacobusse led the way for the team, finishing third and seventh respectively.

Sophomore Karana Wickens and Junior Maegen Hopkins finished 10th and 13th respectively to make the all-region team as well.

Sophomore Sandra Gofton finished 36th, senior captain Lauren O’Toole was 42nd, and freshman Maggie Tarasow finished 53rd.

“This group of girls has worked very hard all season. They have bonded together to become a good team,” the coach said. “They have had ups and downs throughout the season, but they continue to cheer on their teammates and improve as a team. I am very proud of these girls and their efforts.

The team will compete at the state meet Saturday at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn at 1:30 p.m.
