Chelsea Hospital Recognizes Those Who Have Completed Mental Health Training

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Von Lozon for the information in this story.)

In coordination with National Superhero Day on April 28, Chelsea Hospital announced the launch of its “Why I’m Trained” Campaign.

The campaign features local community members who completed mental health training through the hospital’s Mental Health Awareness and Training (MHAT) Program and their reasons for becoming trained.

Since October 2021, 186 people in the 5 Healthy Towns Region — Chelsea, Dexter, Grass Lake, Manchester, and Stockbridge — have participated in one of three mental health trainings offered.  This group consists of everyday citizens, including mothers, fathers, teachers, nurses and business owners.

“We know mental health is in the forefront of people’s minds,” said Sarah Wilczynski, the Chelsea Hospital’s MHAT coordinator said in a press release, “We want to celebrate those who have taken the time to become trained so that they can better support, and be a resource for the people in their lives. What better day than National Superhero Day to celebrate these local heroes who are helping support our community.”

As part of the mental health training provided, participants learn how to recognize signs and symptoms of a mental health challenge, how to start the conversation about mental health, and ways they can support someone who may be experiencing a challenge, including connecting them with local resources.

Of the individuals who have participated in the “Why I’m Trained” Campaign thus far, most have expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve their community. They also used the opportunity to encourage others to consider mental health training and to become mental health advocates for their own family and friends.
