Chelsea Housing Research Advisory Commission fact-finding underway

By Lisa Carolin

The Housing Research Advisory Commission had its first meeting on April 10 and members agreed that a priority will be to look at the gaps in housing in Chelsea and determine how to fill them.

The seven-member commission’s role is to present findings to the Chelsea City Council. Members discussed future agendas and topics they will pursue including comparing demographics of other growing communities to Chelsea, defining what affordable housing is, and reaching out to neighboring townships to let them know what the commission is doing.

Responsibilities of the Housing Research Advisory Commission include identifying housing needs, evaluating housing options, and researching existing housing.

The commission chose member Dr. Vincent Elie as chairman and member Joshua Tucker as secretary. The other members of the commission are City Council members Rick Catherman and Peter Feeney, Planning Commission member Adam Ellison, Real Estate professional Terris Ahrens, and at-large member Mackenzie Pfeiffer.

The Housing Research Advisory Commission will meet twice a month on the second and fourth Tuesdays at 6 p.m. in the City Council chambers. The next meeting is on April 24.
