Chelsea Kiwanis Club Hears from Lisa Nickel, Melissa Struk

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt for the information in this story.)

Last Monday, the Chelsea Kiwanis Club heard from Director of Special Education Lisa Nickel and Lead Teacher Half Day Preschool Melissa Struk from Chelsea School’s Preschool Program.

They covered the programs available for this coming school year, and aim to provide quality education for every child, no matter if student’s needs are exceptional, special, or additional.

Nickel is especially passionate about teaching young people, and has worked in Chelsea for over 30 years. The early years of life are most important for the development of the whole child. The preschool staff offers developmentally appropriate experiences for each individual child.

Struk stressed the important benefit to both abled and disabled students when they have class together. There is no separate part of the school. She related a story about her own college-age son who recently ran into a classmate from preschool. Now after all these years they are friends again.

We were pleased to present them with our annual donation to support children’s admission to preschool for those families in need.

Thank you to all who stopped by our food concession trailer at the Sounds & Sights Festival. Your purchases fund our contributions to local groups like Chelsea Community Preschool.

Monday the club will hear from Bill O’Reilly from Chelsea Senior Center. After a three-year absence due to Covid, the club is back to meeting at Chelsea Hospital Dining Room at 5:45 p.m.
