Chelsea Parks Commission Continues Work on ‘Timbertown Re-imagined’ Project

By Lisa Carolin

The Chelsea Parks Commission acknowledged a $25,000 grant from the Chelsea Community Foundation to the Huron Waterloo Pathways Initiative at its Aug.1 meeting.

The recent grant is for improvements at Timbertown Park to connect Chelsea residents to the Border to Border Trail.

The parks commission has been working with the City of Chelsea, the HWPI, Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation Commission, and other community partners on the “Timbertown Re-imagined” project, which includes updates to the playground, the construction of pickleball courts, the restoration of the Pathway to Renewal, as well as the construction of a B2B trailhead kiosk.

More information is available at www.TimberTownChelsea.org.

Also at the meeting, Dan Kaminsky spoke to Parks Commission members about the Community Garden, which is located next to Timbertown. Kaminsky said that the garden includes about an acre of land and 35 garden plots and always has a waiting list. However, he said, for the last five years there has not been enough access to water for the garden. Parks Commission members agreed to a meeting with representatives from the garden and the City of Chelsea to discuss the possibility of running a water line to the garden and how such a project could be funded.

Also discussed was the possibility of installing a drinking fountain at Veteran’s Park.

The commission meets next on Sept. 12.
