Chelsea Parks Commission Reviews Improvement Projects

By Lisa Carolin

Chelsea park improvements for the 2022-2023 budget year were reviewed at the Oct. 4 Parks Commission meeting.

City Manager Roy Atkinson said that plans include a picnic shelter for Timbertown to be constructed in spring of 2023 as well as a waste bin and signage for the park; bike racks for Pierce Park as well as benches and possibly small play elements; signage and bike racks for Veterans Park; a small pavilion to be built in the Dog Park in spring of 2023 as well as signage and a trash bin.

The mud project at the Dog Park has been completed thanks to a fundraising effort by dog park users. A concrete pad and drain were installed with a drain pipe that runs over the hill to the creek.

Parks Commission member Sam Angus, who is a member of the Community Center Task Force, said that the task force hopes to form a working group to fill in information gaps about the three possible sites being considered to recommend to Chelsea City Council. Those sites are property in the Freer/Trinkle Road area, Timbertown, and expanding on the existing Chelsea Wellness Center.

Survey results about both Timbertown and the Chelsea Dog Park are ongoing and will be discussed by the Parks Commission at its November meeting.

The Parks Commission meets next on Nov. 1 at 9 a.m.
