Chelsea police are asking for your help to identify an armed robber

On May 15 at about 11:45 p.m., there was an armed robbery at the Shell gas station in the 1600 block of S. Main St.

Police are looking for a light-skinned black male about 6’1 weighing about 260-275 pounds. He was wearing a light blue fabric mask covering part of his face and had on a black nylon jacket, dark colored sweat pants, a Detroit Tigers ballcap, white or light-colored gloves, and white and red Reebok brand sneakers.

If you know anything or have seen this man, please contact Chelsea PD.

Although Chelsea Police Chief Ed Toth said Monday night that he could not go into specifics – he described the suspect as “having a confidence about him” that made it seem as though this was not his first armed robbery.

Toth said that he is working with other police departments “trying to match up a similar MO.”

He also said the robber was carrying a semiautomatic pistol.

This was the sixth armed robbery in Chelsea since he’s been chief, Toth said.

According to the police report, a silent holdup alarm had been pulled on May 15 at about 11:45 p.m. and a female victim told police a masked suspect entered her place of work at around 11:40 pm and pointed a black handgun at her and demanded all of the money out of the cash drawer.

The victim said she complied with the demands and the suspect took the money and fled the scene north possibly toward an awaiting car in a nearby parking lot.

A K-9 officer was requested and with the assistance of the Ann Arbor Police Department the track ended in the 1500 block of S. Main Street near the side of some nearby businesses.
