On Tuesday afternoon, Chelsea United Way board members placed the two annual fundraising thermometers in town.

This year, one was located in front of Chelsea Lanes, owned by this year’s honorary fundraising chairman Ed Greenleaf.

The second one was placed in Veterans Park by Eric Keaton, president of the Chelsea United Way Board of Directors and Mike Kapolka, principal of Chelsea High School and the school district representative on the board.

The annual fundraising campaign kicked off on Sept 17 at a Chelsea High School football game and already the group has raised about 30 percent of its goal of $100,000, which will benefit about seven member agencies including Faith in Action, the Chelsea Area Senior Center, Grace Clinic, the Chelsea Rec Council, Parents as Teachers, the St. Louis Center and Washtenaw Area Value Express (WAVE).

“Over 90 percent of the money collected stays locally,” said Keaton.

“The Chelsea United Way does so many great things for so many great community organizations,” said Greenleaf, who added, “I’m honored to have been chosen as the honorary chairman of this year’s fundraising campaign.”
