Culver’s of Chelsea opened just over a year ago in December of 2021. The first Culver’s in the country was opened in 1984 by Craig and Lea Culver, along with Craig’s parents George and Ruth Culver, in the family’s hometown of Sauk City, Wisconsin. Its trademark products are ButterBurgers® and Frozen Custard.

“Cravable as our signature combination is, the Culver family knew right away that although the business is centered around the food, it is really about the people,” said Jeff Holden, marketing & community relations director for Culver’s of Chelsea. “While folks can vividly recall the first time they bit into a ButterBurger or tasted a scoop of rich, creamy fresh frozen custard, it’s our way of welcoming guests that truly makes Culver’s delicious.”

Culver’s cooks all its products to order and focuses on the quality of its products as well as hospitality.

Gerry Olin, who owns Culver’s of Chelsea, previously worked in Chelsea and returned to the area in 2021.

“With the memories of a small town that had its roots in agriculture and a community that supports its local businesses, the decision was made to open a Culver’s,” said Holden. “Olinik lives in the area and employs team members from Chelsea, Manchester, Grass Lake, Stockbridge, and Dexter.”

As far as changes go, Holden says Culver’s largest change to date just occurred.

“We switched from Pepsi to Coca-Cola,” he said. ‘We believe our guests will enjoy all the variety of Coke products served. Culver’s is always introducing limited time items and one of the most popular of these will be returning in March, Culver’s Northwoods Walleye sandwich and dinner. Caught exclusively for Culver’s from Lake Quebec in Canada, this wonderful treat is only available for a short time and is guaranteed to sell out before Easter.”

As far as Culver’s relationship with the Chelsea community goes, Holden says, “Chelsea is a great community with great people and organizations. We belong to the Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club of Chelsea. Through these two organizations, we have been able to support the Chelsea schools, Chelsea District Library, Chelsea events such as Hometown Holiday and Sound and Sights just to name a few.”

Culver’s supports the community by being actively involved with schools and other organizations in and around Chelsea.

“We’d like to thank the community of Chelsea for making our first year such a success and welcoming us to the community. When you come to Culver’s of Chelsea, you are going to get a quality meal from a friendly team that supports the community.”
