Don’t miss Christmas on the (Waterloo) Farm, Dec. 1-2

In addition to all the festivities taking place in Chelsea on Dec. 1-2 during Hometown Holidays, a short drive away Christmas on the (Waterloo) Farm will provide a re-creation of holiday traditions of the 1840’s.

There will be tours of the 10-room farmhouse, the authentic log house, eight outbuildings, and the one-room Dewey School, and a traditional Christmas program.

The events take place Saturday, Dec. 1, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 2, from noon-4 p.m. at 13493 Waterloo Munith Road.

There will be hand-crafted greens, homemade baked goods, and gift items for purchase as well as free refreshments and live music.

Make sure you see the natural decorations of dried herbs, spices, flowers, nuts, cedar and pine will set the scene in the 10-room farmhouse, where costumed guides will recount the activities that would have been taking place in each room, according to information about the event.

Singers and musicians will perform traditional holiday melodies.

Visitors will also see the log house, which will be decorated as it would have been in the 1840’s, before the family moved into the farmhouse.

The Waterloo Area Historical Society’s Dewey School Museum will be open for tours and decorated for the season, and it will serve as the setting for a traditional Christmas program as well.

The schoolhouse is located on Territorial Road, about ¾-mile west of Parks Road.

Admission to the Waterloo Farm Museum grounds for this event is $5 for adults and $2 for children ages 5-12.

There is no admission charge for children under 5 and members of the Waterloo Area Historical Society. Admission includes a guided tour of the ten-room farmhouse.
