Duct, duct, duct …. taped with duct tape

The first “fun run” at North Creek and South Meadow elementary schools organized by the Chelsea PTO, netted more than $18,000 as a fundraiser and resulted in principals Marcus Kaemming and Lisa Nickel being duct taped to a wall by their respective students on Wednesday.

The PTO is a group of people who work extremely hard with the schools to put together special programs for the students and raise funds for programs, grants, playground equipment and other needs in the school district.

Last month’s “fun run,” “Get Movin-A-Thon” at the schools included students spending 30 minutes in constant movement while participating in “healthy fundraising.”

The new program is part of the schools’ two-tiered effort to fundraise for “everything that makes North Creek and South Meadows Elementary Schools fun, educational and exciting for your children,” according to information about the event.

And the prize if the goal of $16,000 was met? Kaemming and Nichols would be duct-taped to a wall by the students.

Adding his piece of duct tape.

Kaemming began his taped adventure about 9 a.m. and as 11 a.m. arrived, he looked more like a “taped crusader” than a caped one.

He said he felt like a piece of art as class after class added their taping – 19 classes in all and about 16 rolls of duct tape got the job done.

“It’s stinky,” he said of his body taping and it’s getting warm, he said, while wearing a special duct-tape tie with Skippy written down the middle – a gift from Pete Warburton.

The money raised will be used to provide mini-grants, playground equipment, classroom gifts and support the students in the classroom, Kaemming said previously.

And, that's a wrap.
