Feb. 23: Folts, Cumming present concert at Chelsea First United Methodist Church

Chelsea residents Martha Folts, harpsichord and organ, and Sara Cumming, cello, will present a musical concert tour of Italy, France and Germany on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 4 p.m. at the Chelsea First United Methodist Church, 128 Park St.

The concert is free and is open to all.

The program will include pieces by composers Salvatore Lanzetti, J S Bach, Louis Couperin, Antoine Soler, Domenico Scarlatti and Antoine Forqueray.

Martha-FoltsFolts completed a Doctoral of Musical Arts degree in harpsichord performance at the University of Michigan, studying with Edward Parmentier.

She has taught at Iowa State University, Miami of Ohio, Adrian College and the University of Michigan.

Folts has presented recitals, workshops and lectures throughout the Midwest and in Europe. Her most recent recordings include compositions by Scarlatti and Frescobaldi.

She teaches privately, knits “Hats fur Kats” and is writing a children’s book about the cats who wear the hats.

Sara-CummingCumming received a Master of Music degree from Rice University and a Bachelor of Music Degree in cello performance from the University of Illinois. She continued her studies at the University of Houston.

She has studied cello with Laurien Laufman, Shirley Trepel and Anthony Elliott.  Cumming has performed with the Houston Symphony, the Melbourne Symphony, various chamber music ensembles and the movie recording industry.

She is a founding member of the Chelsea Chamber Players and has a cello studio in the city.
