There will be a “pop-up” closed cell foam recycling collection at the home of Bill and Glenna Jo Christen at 19 Chestnut Dr. in Chelsea on Saturday, Feb. 25 from noon to 4 p.m.
Should there be more than two or three inches of snow that morning, an alternative date will be announced. Otherwise, the weather is not an issue.
The foam will be hauled to Mason with the help of Nick and Michelle Stamboulellis of Dexter Township. They also collect foam on Sundays from noon-2 p.m. at Dexter Mill.
Prior to the collection, we can provide very large, clear plastic bags if you have a large pieces or a large amount. Call or text Bill at (586) 801-6199. Your foam will be placed in these large bags by our volunteers. Plastic bags and cardboard boxes will be returned to you for appropriate recycling.
We are only collecting the “right stuff,” i.e., cups, food trays, egg cartons, packing material, and medicine or food coolers. If the foam bends, but does not break, or if is wrapped in a plastic coating, it is NOT the “right stuff.” Packing peanuts will be given to private parties to be repurposed.
Please remember that we are in a residential neighborhood and be patient while we unload the foam.
This is a temporary measure until can secure a location for a Dart Industries semi-trailer at the WWRA site or an alternative Chelsea location.
