State Rep. Gretchen Driskell, D-Saline, was recently chosen as one of two Legislator of the Year awards winners by the Michigan National Organization for Women.

She shares the honor with State Rep. Winnie Brinks, D-Grand Rapids.

The award will be presented at Michigan NOW’s annual state conference on Saturday, March 29.

Michigan NOW is a chapter of the National Organization for Women, and is the largest multi-issue feminist advocacy group in the United States and Michigan, according to the press release.

Michigan NOW’s purpose is to take action to bring women into full participation in the mainstream of American society now, exercising all privileges and responsibilities thereof in truly equal partnership with men.

“I’m proud to be chosen for such a distinguished award,” Driskell said in a press release. “Michigan NOW advocates for issues I believe in, like pay equity and equal access to health care for women and families. Last year, I introduced House Bill 4518, which would address pay inequity, because when nearly half a million households in Michigan are headed by women, it is harmful to our families when women make 74 cents to each dollar paid their male counterparts.”
