With Martin Luther King, Jr. Day coming up on Jan. 15, Chelsea Human Rights Commission members finalized some plans for activities in Chelsea to commemorate the event.
The HRC met on Jan. 5 following a lack of a quorum at its regularly scheduled meeting on Jan. 3. Members approved the creation of a task force to come up with questions for the panel discussion the HRC will host at Chelsea City Chambers on Jan.15.
The event will feature the topic of affordable housing in Western Washtenaw County and what makes it so hard, and what can be done to fix it. City Council member Tony Iannelli will be the moderator, and panelists will represent Avalon Housing and Faith in Action, as well as local and federal government.

HRC members also reviewed the group’s 2023 report, which will need to be submitted to Chelsea City Council along with a plan for 2024.
Members voted to schedule a visioning session at 6 p.m. prior to the HRC’s next regularly scheduled meeting on Feb. 7, 2024.
There is currently an opening on the HRC. For more information, go to https://www.city-chelsea.org/boards-committees-commissions.
