Finalizing plans for MLK Day 2024 was one of the topics at the Chelsea Human Rights Commission’s Dec. 6 meeting.
Martin Luther King Day will be observed on Jan.15, 2024, and activities in Chelsea will last through Jan. 26. Anyone interested in planning related activities is invited to contact the HRC at HRC@city-chelsea.org no later than Jan. 3, 2024.
Topics will include affordable housing in Washtenaw County, and what makes it so hard to do, which will be put on by the HRC.
Members of the HRC talked about the success of Civility Month in November. Some of the activities they’d like to repeat include the introduction to LGBTQ+ as well as the program on conflict resolution. Members will include Civility Month in their plan for 2024.
HRC members approved a revised complaint procedure draft, which will now go to the city attorney.
There is currently an opening on the HRC. For more information, go to https://www.city-chelsea.org/boards-committees-commissions.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the HRC is on Jan.3, 2024 at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.
