Join Chelsea Elementary school kids in fundraising during the ‘Bulldog Jog’

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Aubree Shemwell, Hilarie Conley, Marcus Kaemming and Stacie Battaglia for the information in this story.)

Everyone can contribute to a fun event called the “Bulldog Jog” and help both North Creek Elementary and South Meadows Elementary raise funds for a number of activities that take place throughout the school year for both students and teachers.

bulldogA “Bulldog Jog” is a walk-a-thon/run-a-thon kid-style.

“It’s not a race or a speed competition,” says Hilarie Conley, the event’s coordinator, rather an opportunity for students to have fun, while doing something healthy and supporting their school.

South Meadows Principal Stacie Battaglia says, “We are really excited to be having the Chelsea Senior Center join us in our efforts this year. They will be there passing out apples to the kids after they finish.”

Battaglia says this is the first of several events that South will be collaborating on with the Senior Center this year.

Each class has a designated time slot and each student receives a “race bib,” a certificate of completion, an achievement medal, and a popsicle.

Plus, each class will have its picture taken with the Bulldog mascot.

“The PTO is raising money for everything that makes North Creek and South Meadows Elementary Schools fun, educational and exciting for children,” says Aubree Shemwell, PTO president.

“The Bulldog Jog gets elementary school kids moving and raises money for the PTO to help support the different activities for students in grades K-5,” says Marcus Kaemming, principal of North Creek.

The money is used to fund a sock hop, staff grants, playground/fitness equipment, Science Night and Geography Night, staff appreciation efforts, Pastries for Parents, the Ice Cream Social, instructional books for each building’s book rooms, and many more events.

This great healthy initiative is for students only, however parents are welcome to come and cheer on the kids, Kaemming says.

The event will take place during school on Friday, Oct. 18 at North Creek from 8:30-10:30 a.m. and at South Meadows from 12:15-2:35 p.m.

The PTO’s goal is to raise $16,000 for these activities during this major fundraiser of the year, and there is a Website where anyone can go to donate

Last year, about $18,000 was raised.
