Chelsea logo 2During its first Chelsea City Council meeting of 2015, elected officials will discuss a request by the Chelsea Rotary Foundation for a charitable gaming license and discuss draft plans for upcoming economic development sessions.

The Chelsea Rotary Foundation raises funds for “educational and charitable purposes for students and teachers” and provides support to other charitable organizations involved with the eradication of polio and other diseases, according to information supplied to the City Council.

In addition, according to the foundation’s application, the group provides safe playgrounds, walkways and transportation in the city and throughout the Chelsea School District as well as “supporting other charitable organizations in their efforts to lesson the effects of illiteracy and emotional trauma in Chelsea and Western Washtenaw County.”

Following two work sessions focused on economic development within the city, City Manager John Hanifan has provided the City Council with a draft timeline for the council’s efforts to encourage additional economic development within the city.

A draft timeline was provided that includes eight phases and looks at project management, assessments of things such as retail and other information gathering, community outreach and meetings, inclusion of the Downtown Development Authority and chamber of commerce, public hearings and by the end of the year, a final draft plan.

The City Council meets at 7 p.m. in the council chambers in the new police building.
