Lyndon Township Board, Planning Commission, ZBA plan joint meeting

The Lyndon Township Board of Trustees and the township’s Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals will hold a joint meeting via Zoom on Feb. 25 at 7 p.m.

Among the topics to be discussed will be:

  • A review of 2020
  • Possible text amendments to its zoning ordinances
  • Consideration of fee schedule adjustments
  • A look forward to the year ahead in the township.

At the Township Board’s Feb. 9 meeting held via Zoom, Zoning Administrator Scott Pacheco gave his January report, which included 5 permits issued and a public hearing that was held for wind generation system zoning text amendments.

He reported that there would be a public hearing on Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. for an amendment to a site plan and special use permit for the church at 7665 Werkner Road.

According to the public hearing notice, the applicant would like to hold church-based retreats with overnight stays and the addition of six buildings in total, with five of these comprising four-units and one comprising three units and a room for laundry facilities that will serve the subject site.

In addition, Pacheco expects another special use and site plan amendment application for the property at 9750 Stofer Road, where there is a storage facility.

Gary Munce, a member of the township’s Broadband Oversight Committee reported that of the about 1,200 households in the township, more than 920 of them are connected to the township’s broadband. He said the original target was 50 percent and the township is now at 85 percent.

Munce also reported on his progress to meet with township officials to determine their IT needs and inventory the township’s IT equipment, software and associated costs. This month the IT committee will begin reviewing potential website redesigns.

Dr. Shikha Singh of the Jackson-Lenawee-Washtenaw Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area, gave a presentation about the organization, which included the educational opportunities that can be provided.

In other new business, Todd DeLand was unanimously appointed to the township’s Board of Review as an alternate member for a 2-year term. DeLand also volunteered to serve on the Lyndon’s new IT committee, which will be redesigning the township’s website.

The township approved a new application for residents who would like to serve on the township’s boards and commissions.   

The elected officials also unanimously approved a new application for hardship/poverty reductions in compliance with the state’s new Tax Commission requirements.
