MDOT M-52/Main Street resurfacing information

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Aaron Jenkins for the information in this story.)

The southbound M-52 resurfacing project begin in Chelsea on Wednesday with an expected completion date of Sunday, Aug. 25.

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is investing about $1 million to resurface and repair southbound M-52 from Middle Street to Old US-12 in the city of Chelsea.

Additional improvements include installing Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant sidewalks.

Southbound M-52 will be closed from Middle Street to Old US-12 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. Traffic will be detoured via westbound Middle Street to southbound Wilkinson Street to eastbound Old US-12.

Northbound M-52 will remain open during this project.

Both directions of M-52 will be open on weekends.

This work will provide a smoother driving surface, increasing safety. The new surface will also help preserve the lower layers of the roadway.
