Nov. 10: Chelsea Depot Artisans Market

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Marsi Parker Darwin for the information in this story.)

The Chelsea Depot Artisans Market opens at the historic train depot on Saturday, Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. for the eighth year as part of the Wine, Women, Shopping event in downtown Chelsea.

At the Depot Artisans Market you’ll find fresh, fun artisans with handcrafted goods for unforgettable gifts by Michigan makers. Organizers Michele Friss and Marsi Parker Darwin, both local artists, pride themselves on choosing quality work for their show.

Darwin and Friss are thrilled to welcome singer songwriter Kitty Donohoe to the show this year. Donohoe, a Michigan Emmy winner and acclaimed musician is also the author of children’s books and CDs, which she’ll be offering for sale at the depot.

Popular writer and illustrator Tracy Gallup will also be back at the show with her latest work.

Jewelry aficionados will be pleased that Nancy Melet of Ann Arbor is returning to the show with her fine and famous hand linked silver jewelry, and Chelsea’s Loretta Roskowski is back with her stunning kiln fired dichroic sets.

Returning this year is Olga Austin with exquisitely woven wearables, as well as Chelsea potter Cheryl Green, whose work features beautifully glazed functional pieces, including mugs, platters, and vases.

Jody Mankerian crafts mostly seasonal primitive figures, signs and decorations, bringing years of experience doing shows and selling her wares at her downtown Marshall shop, The Plaid Herb.

Potter David Kaemmings is back with decorative pieces for the home, along with his painter wife Shirley. The variety of mediums at the depot show also includes Barb Miller-Brief’s gorgeous photography, and soaps and personal care items from Julie Konkle’s Farm Sudz.

Friss’s work includes colorful, exuberant fabric buntings for every occasion, as well as “magpie” buntings and a surprise or two. Darwin is known for her beautiful and affordable stained and etched glass panels, ornaments, gift tags, and Michigan Map pendants and ornaments.

Admission is free; refreshments and door prizes are an added attraction to the show.

In addition, in the spirit of the season, shoppers are encouraged to contribute non-perishable food items to the local food bank. The train depot will be one of the collection stations. All items collected will go to Faith in Action of Chelsea.
