Oct. 20: Kate Fahrner returning to Chelsea to give workshop, performace

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Steve Hinz for the information in this story.)

Chelsea welcomes back Chelsea High School alumni Kate Fahrner for a day of workshops and a special performance on Oct. 20 at 7:30 p.m.

She will join the high school and middle school choirs in a day of workshops and be part of a special performance with the choirs at the Fall Festival of Choirs.

This concert is free and everyone is invited.

“As a part of my 25th year of teaching in Chelsea,” says Steve Hinz. “I want to celebrate by bringing back our successful musicians and performing alum. Kate will kick off our first event/concert. Look for other great performances throughout the year.”

Fahrner has been on Broadway playing Glinda in “Wicked”. She has also been seen around the country in National Tours of the Tony Award winning revival of “South Pacific,” “The Full Monty,” “Cats” and Glinda in Wicked in Chicago.

Her other New York City appearances include the Off-Broadway play “Under My Skin,” and new musicals “The Gig” and “Sarah, Plain and Tall”. She has also been a part of the last two readings and a lab of the highly anticipated new musical “Bandstand.”

She has been very lucky to do a lot of shows in Philadelphia at the Walnut Street Theatre: Jovie in “Elf,” Mrs. Cheveley in “An Ideal Husband,” Rizzo in “Grease,” Ellen in “Miss Saigon,” Billie Dawn in “Born Yesterday” and Amber in “Hairspray.”

Regional theatre has been a huge part of her career taking her to Texas to play Maggie in “A Chorus Line,” doing three productions of “Thoroughly Modern Millie” playing the title role in New York, North Carolina and California where she received an Honorable Mention Best Actress Award.

One of her favorite roles was playing Sally Bowles in the Sam Mendes dark and touching revival of “Cabaret”. In November, Kate will be reprising the role of Jovie in Elf at the esteemed Paper Mill Playhouse outside of NYC.

Fahrner’s workshop and concert is made possible through generous grant funding from the Chelsea Music Boosters.
