Rumors of the retirement of Bobbie and Dan Hoffenbecker, owners of Side Street Garage, located at 121 Buchanan St. in Chelsea, were premature.
Although the couple is ready to retire, they are taking the timing of that plan week by week waiting to see if they get an offer to sell their business.
Side Street Garage, which specializes in general maintenance and auto repair, as well as vintage cars and selling tires, has been owned by the Hoffenbeckers for the last 23 years.
They’ve heard from a couple of parties interested in buying the business, but haven’t gotten any offers yet.
“We’re hoping to retire but want to sell first,” said Bobbie Hoffenbecker. “That’s the best solution for everybody. Whoever buys this business will make a decent living, and our customers will have a place to go that we trust.”
They had planned to close the business at the end of June but are now taking appointments through July 13.
“We’re taking it weekly,” said Hoffenbecker. “We want to stay open if we’ve got some interest. We really love our clients. We know their families, and it’s been great.”
The Hoffenbeckers want clients to know that they won’t be open much longer and are very much hoping to sell the business.
