The students of Chelsea High School’s Independence Hall program were honored on Earth Day for their work with plastic film recycling.

Members of the Chelsea Zero Waste Coalition treated the students and staff to a pizza party in recognition of the service they have provided to the Chelsea community by picking up plastic film at drop off spots around town.

Students collect close to 3,000 pounds of plastic a month which the Trex company then recycles into composite decking and other products.

The students have recently expanded their earth friendly efforts by hosting a bin for clothing and shoes in need of recycling.

By recycling, the students have helped these materials have a new life instead of going to the landfill.
