The Sylvan Township Board meeting on Tuesday, May 6 marked Township Clerk Doug Smith’s last. Smith is resigning from the township board effective May 31, and will be replaced by Kathleen Kennedy, the current deputy clerk.

Mike Jurosek was formally installed as head of the township’s Department of Public Works (DPW). He reported that work continues on the township’s water and sewer systems and that both charges will soon appear on one bill. Currently, they are billed separately and he said the change is an effort to increase transparency.
Jurosek also reported that he is busy working on a long-term plan for both water and sewer, and is expected to give a presentation, perhaps in two weeks, to illustrate where water and sewer systems stand. He also plans to include long-term capital expenses. Jurosek said that there are major repairs needed in the township’s sewer infrastructure in the next few years.
The Glover Cemetery clean-up is scheduled for May 24 at 10 a.m. George Sherfield, a Redford Township resident who has spearheaded this effort, says that he now has enlisted about 20 volunteers.
The Glover Cemetery is off Loveland Road west of Crooked Lake, and contains nine graves from three families.
