April 10: Chelsea Kiwanis holds annual farmers night

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt for the information in this story.)

This Monday, the Chelsea Kiwanis Club will host their annual Farmer’s Night to honor area producers of food.  The speaker will be Roger Sutherland who will speak about the vital importance of bees to agriculture.

Last Monday, Chelsea’s first responders were honored and members of the city’s police and fire departments, as well as the Huron Valley Ambulance, were invited to the club’s annual dinner in their honor.

Police Chief Ed Toth introduced his officers and advised us on some future road closures. Portions of Freer and Trinkle roads will be closed for the hospital’s Heart & Sole Run/Walk on Saturday, May 20.  And there will be more closures downtown for Sounds and Sights on Thursday Nights and the Chelsea Community Fair during the summer.

Toth spoke about the increasing problem of opiate abuse in the area.

New Chelsea Area Fire Authority Chief Robert Arbini introduced himself. A Michigander with a young family, he is happy to be in Chelsea close to his extended family. He said he has a good budget to work with and looks forward to working with his fellow firefighters.

The club meeting begins each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m.

Everyone is invited to the club’s meetings to learn about Kiwanis.
